This course will focus on the economy of ancient Rome with an emphasis on the role of legal institutions. The following topics will be discussed:

1) General Constraints, demography and technology
2) Agrarian Economy
3) Commercial Relations
4) The State and the Roman Economy
5) The Possibilities for Economic Growth
